The Ornellaia La Determinazione Bolgheri Superiore DOC 2022 with 14.5% vol. in a 0.75-litre bottle is an expressive top wine from Bolgheri that perfectly combines the characteristics of the coastal terroir and the signature of one of Italy’s most renowned wineries. The cuvée consists of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc and 10% Petit Verdot – a classic Bordeaux-orientated composition that finds its unique depth and elegance in Bolgheri. The 2022 vintage was characterised by a hot, dry summer, which produced grapes of exceptional ripeness quality thanks to night-time cooling, precise viticultural work and strictly selective hand-picking. Ageing in French barriques, including a high proportion of new wood, gives the wine structure, flavour and finesse without masking its clear fruit and elegance.

The Ornellaia 2022 impresses with its deep ruby red colour, almost black in hue, and combines aromatic complexity with perfect balance. The combination of intense dark fruit, fine spice, elegant toasted notes and maritime minerality impressively demonstrates why Bolgheri is one of the most important wine-growing regions in Italy. The dense, silky texture, lively acidity and perfectly integrated tannins form a wine that impresses even when young, but will only realise its full potential between 2026 and 2055. Tasting NoteDeep, almost black ruby red in the glass. The nose is complex and multi-layered with dark berry fruit such as cassis, black cherry and blackberry, accompanied by cedar wood, tobacco, Graphit, liquorice and dark chocolate. Floral and balsamic notes as well as a fine salty minerality complete the elegant interplay of flavours. The palate is dense, precise and energetic with silky, powerful tannins, lively acidity and harmonious fruit fullness. The finish is deep, savoury and long-lasting, carried by dark fruit and fine wood nuances.

The Ornellaia La Determinazione 2022 harmonises perfectly with steaks, rack of lamb, braised beef, venison and deer dishes, truffle dishes and Mediterranean meat specialities with herbs and dark sauces. It is also an excellent accompaniment to mature hard cheeses, Peccorino Toscano, fine sausages or mushroom risotto. Served at 16-18 °C, it unfolds its structural depth and accompanies large menus with a noble, long-lasting presence.
